James “Harold” (J.H.) Holloway passed away peacefully Sunday, August 3, 2014 surrounded by his family at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on November 7, 1939 in Malvern, Alabama. He grew up on a farm and that is where his strong work ethic he exhibited and taught his children began. He believed if you were willing to work hard and do any job you would be rewarded.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 3 pm at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford with Bro. Brian Holloway and Rev. Mitchell Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Jimmy Bottoms of Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

He graduated from Slocomb High School in 1957. Soon after, he began his journey to Orlando to work various jobs such as roofing and orange juice “taste tester”. While there he attended Orlando Junior College. He also served in the National Guard for five years. His love for agriculture always remained near and dear to heart and he landed a job working for Federal State Inspection, inspecting mostly peanuts and potatoes but other fruits and vegetables as well. He retired after twenty-seven years of service. While he worked a full time job he always had his second job farming and raising livestock. After retirement, he became known as the “peanut man” wearing his big hat and driving a red truck in Enterprise selling boiled peanuts, watermelons, fruits and vegetables.

Although he loved his work, a more important thing to him was his love for his family. He also enjoyed salt and fresh water fishing. One of his favorite past times was bowling, as he won several trophies, and attended the yearly “national tournament”. He won the State Senior Bowling tournament and Dothan City Champion.

He was preceded in death by his mother Verlie Holloway, father Roy Holloway, sister Betty Palmer, and grandson Mason Walding. Survivors include his wife Patricia “Pat” Holloway, three children Leah Walding and husband Charlie of Hartford, John “Johnny” Holloway and wife Pam of Enterprise, Teresa Hutcheson and husband Brett of Dothan, sister Myra Milner and husband David, sister Sandra Stewart, and brother Rickie Holloway, sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several foster grandchildren.

The family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics (Dothan Special Olympics Att. Angie Lowe P.O. Box 2128 Dothan, Alabama 36302 In Memory of James Holloway), Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org) or your favorite charity.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Amedisys Home Health, Dr. Edwin Morris, Dr. Ben Craven and Dr. Scott McAllister.
