James Lovelady, 86, of Dothan, passed away September 16, 2016 at his residence.


A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 am Thursday, September 22, 2016 at St. Columba Catholic Church Chapel with Father Johnny Celzo officiating. Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21, 2016, 5-7 pm at the funeral home.


Mr. Lovelady was born in Haleyville, Alabama where he lived the early years of his life. He joined the United States Navy at 17 and served as a gunner’s mate seaman for 5 years. Following his military service, he worked as a police officer in Panama Canal Zone and later with the Panama Canal Commission as locomotive operator until he retired in 1988. Mr. Lovelady was a member of the VFW, Shriners, American Legion, and Elks Club. He was of the Catholic faith.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Julia Lovelady; his son, James (Jennifer) Lovelady, Jr.; his daughters, Sandra Lovelady, Eva Lovelady, and Beverly Lovelady; his two grandchildren Justin Lovelady and Johnny Lovelady-Antczak; several nieces and nephews.
