JAMES  MARCUS  STINSON

 

ABBEVILLE. . .James Marcus (Mark) Stinson, a resident of Abbeville, died late Friday afternoon, March 21, 2014, at his home. He was 81.

            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 23, 2014, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ryan Johnson and Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213.
            Mr. Stinson was born and reared in Henry County, son of the late Harry Elijah Stinson and Lillie Estelle Price Stinson. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and also in the Army Reserve and Army National Guard, both in Abbeville. Mr. Stinson was formerly employed as a truck driver with A.W. Herndon Oil Company, and Florida Rock and Tank Lines. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville. Mr. Stinson was preceded in death by a son, Allan Wayne Stinson, a daughter-in-law, Krista Mize, and three brothers, Jerry Stinson, Robert E. (Bob) Stinson, and Charles Stinson.

            Surviving relatives include his wife, Imogene Shipes Stinson; a son, James Harry Stinson, both of Abbeville; two grandchildren, James Alan Stinson, and Christopher Sean Stinson; a great-granddaughter, Shanna Gayle Stinson; two sisters, Suanne Chapman, Colquitt, GA; and Faye Daughtry, Abbeville; a brother, Don Stinson (Ruby Grace); sisters-in-law, Frances Stinson, and Georgiann Baxley, all of Abbeville.

            Serving as active pallbearers will be Sean Stinson, Alan Stinson, Chris Daughtry, Michael Daughtry, Keith Stinson, Bruce Downs, and Kevin Bass.
