   JAMES  TAYLOR  BLANKENSHIP


NEWVILLE. . .James Taylor Blankenship, a resident of Newville, died late Thursday night, April 18, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. He was 86.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 22, 2013, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Jerry Glover and Reverend Gerald Maddox officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow at 2:00 P.M. (E.D.T.) Monday, in the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Center United Methodist Church Debt Retirement Fund, c/o Nancy Woods, 1169 County Road 89, Newville, AL 36353.


            Mr. Blankenship was born and reared in Henry County, near the Bertha Community, son of the late Harmon Blankenship and Ruby Sara Murphy Blankenship. He lived in Clayton, Alabama from 1954 until 1999 when he returned to Henry County. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the Old Center United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Clayton Lions Club and had been active in the Barbour County Cattlemen’s Association and the Forest Land Owners Association.


            Mr. Blankenship was formerly employed by the Soil Conservation Service, Department of Agriculture, as a Soil Conservation Technician. He was retired from the Barbour County Board of Education as Maintenance and Transportation Supervisor. Mr. Blankenship was also retired as a Chief Warrant Officer from the Alabama Army National Guard, in Eufaula, where he served as the Unit Administrator for the HHD 1103rd Transportation Battalion.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Annie Mae Elmore Blankenship, Newville; a daughter, Patricia B. Justice (Ray), Eufaula; a son, Tommy Blankenship, (Vicki), Fairhope, AL; a sister, Pauline B. Braun, Columbus, GA; two grandchildren, Tara Justice and Carly Blankenship; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
