HEADLAND…Janet Hamm Gamble, a resident of Headland, died early Saturday evening, August 17, 2013, at her home. She was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, August 19, 2013, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Reverend Don Tew officiating.  Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery with Reverend Ricky Sowell officiating.  Holman- Headland Mortuary is in charge of the funeral arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, c/o Jerry Knowles, 5373 East County Rd. 22, Headland, AL, 36345 or to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, AL 36302.


            Mrs. Gamble was born and reared in the Bethlehem Community, near Headland, daughter of the late Ralph Carlton Hamm and Joyce Leone Redding Hamm.  She was a graduate of Headland High School.  Mrs. Gamble lived in the Pleasant Plains Community of Houston County all her adult lifetime.  She was retired as a Secretary from Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging (SARCOA).  In earlier years, she was employed by the State of Alabama as a Financial Support Case Worker in the Houston County Food Stamp Office.  Mrs. Gamble was a member of the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church and formerly served as Treasurer of the Henry County Heritage Book Committee in 2002.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald C. Hamm.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Earl Gamble, two sons, Mark E. Gamble (Jane), and Frank Gamble, all of Headland; a twin sister, Joan Hamm Money, Headland; and another sister, Hortense Holmes, Birmingham; four grandchildren, Laura Myers (John), Janet Armstrong (Wesley), Jacob Gamble, and Gretchen Turner; five great grandchildren, Stacie Armstrong, Tripp Turner, Ella Turner, Austin Gamble, and Aiden Gamble; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Tew, Dothan; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Wesley Armstrong, John Myers, Jacob Gamble, Shane Money, Chris Money, Richard Money, and Steve Money.
