Joe Derek Miller, 43, a resident of Dothan passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at a local hospital following a brief illness.


Graveside services will be 2 pm Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Sunset Memorial Park Pavilion with Rev. Van Clack officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284.


Derek was born January 4, 1971 in Houston County and lived in Dothan most of his life. He was a 1990 graduate of Northview High School and attended Wallace College. He was a custom homebuilder in Dothan for the last several years. Derek was extremely gifted in his ability to build things and used this gift to assist friends and neighbors in need. He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church accepting Christ at the early age of 8 years old. He was preceded in death by his father Joe Miller; a niece Mary Beth Miller; grandparents, Lula Bell and Harmon Watford, Macon and Ruth Miller; an aunt Barbara Clymar; an uncle Ronnie Skipper.


Survivors include his mother Eleanor Miller; a brother Mark (Stacee) Miller; aunts, Mary Wallace and Terri Skipper; a nephew Macon Miller; numerous cousins and friends.


Pallbearers will be Mark Miller, Macon Miller, Todd Skipper, Jeff Skipper, and Chris Lurie.
