Mr. John Samuel Turberville of Grady Dunn Road, Samson, Alabama passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015.  He was 83.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Minister Harry O. Adkison officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.


Mr. Turberville was born December 16, 1931, in Century, Florida to the late John Killebrew and Veronyka Patterson Turberville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending horse shows, but he was especially fond of the Tennessee Walking horses.  He was a licensed airplane pilot and loved to fly.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a civil service retiree.  Mr. Turberville was of the Church of Christ faith.


In addition to his parents, a son, John Samuel Turberville, a grandson, Jeremy Simmons, as well as two brothers: Jack and John K. Turberville, and a sister, Susie Turberville, all preceded him in death.


Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Joyce Turberville; one son, Benjamin Keith Turberville; one daughter, Brenda Deon Simmons, all of Samson; three grandchildren: Shawn Turberville of Elba, Shane Simmons of Enterprise and Dawn Money of Dothan; six great-grandchildren; other extended family and friends.
