Joseph A. Marek, a longtime resident of Ozark, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 in Clanton, Alabama at the age of 92.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Earl Bankston Memorial Chapel of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Thomas Nixon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 on Sunday prior to service time.


Mr. Marek was born April 22, 1924 in Minnesota where he lived the early years of his life there. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954-1958 and was a resident of Ozark for over 50 years.


Mr. Marek was employed with B. F. Willams Construction Company for many years. In later years, he enjoyed working as volunteer with the Newton Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Ozark.


Mr. Marek is predeceased by his wife, Tommie Hagler Marek, two brothers, Ambrose Marek and William Marek and a sister, Ethel Meier.


He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Campbell (Buster) of Clanton; two sons, Henry Marek of Abbeville and Danny Marek of Memphis, TN; a sister, Francis Vettie of Arizona and a step-son, Wayne Aldridge of Gadsden; 16 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
