Katherine Sowell of Geneva passed away Friday, June 5, 2015.  She was 76.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Dennis Young and Sister Brenda officiating.  Burial will follow in Old Oak Grove Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. 


Mrs. Sowell was born in Bonifay, Fla. on January 31, 1939 to the late Grady Eugene and Ole Mae Locke Thomas.  Prior to her retirement she was a cabinetmaker for many years.  Mrs. Sowell loved flowers and angels.  She had a tender heart and often rescued stray animals.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her husband, James Edward Sowell; daughter, Lisa Ann Stephens; and a grandson, Jerome Del Valle, preceded her in death.


She is survived by four sons, Grady Del Valle of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Mike Del Valle (Cheryl) of Geneva, Herminio “Bear” Thomas (Stephanie Lawson) of Crawfordville, Fla. and James Sowell of Geneva; two daughters, Carmen Ramos of Tallahassee, Fla. and Margarita Ruiz (Wigberto) of Crawfordville, Fla.; three sisters, Geraldine Burns of Wacissa, Fla., Ima Jean Millender (Robby) of Carrabelle, Fla. and Christina Oglesby (Ken) of Dothan; brother, Eugene Thomas of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren, Daniel Del Valle, Kathy Del Valle Meador, Marty Dale Weeks, Chad Weeks, Nina Thomas, Amber Thomas, Emalie Sowell and Hannah Franklin; ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
