Kathleen Holland Brown, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, August 26, 2015, following an extended illness. She was 82.

Funeral services will be held at Byrd Funeral Home in Dothan at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 30, 2015 with Rev.  Orin Barrett officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00pm Sunday prior to service time.

Mrs. Brown was born May 13, 1933 in Houston County. She graduated from Newton High School in 1950 and moved to Dothan at that time.  She married Grover W. Brown in September 21, 1951. Together they built their life in Dothan raising three children. Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for the past 55 years. Throughout her younger years, Mrs. Brown served in teaching Sunday school, Adult Choir and Vacation Bible School. She was active in church outreach until the past couple of years.  Mrs. Brown was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager for over 15 years. At the age of 40, she graduated from Wallace Community College licensed practical nursing program. She was employed at Southeast Alabama Medical Center for five years. Mrs. Brown established and operated Sunrise Retirement Home with her husband until her retirement. She loved nursing and serving the many residents who lived at the retirement facility throughout the years.  Kathleen devoted her life to helping her family and others. She especially adored her grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her parents, Carson Edward Holland and Lois Windham Holland and a sister, Melba Holland.

Survivors include her husband, Grover Brown of Dothan, AL; son, Warren Brown and daughter-in-law, Linda of Dothan, AL, daughter, Kathy Cleveland and son-in-law, Dr. Bob Cleveland of Dothan, AL and daughter, Jane Kitching and son-in-law, Brian Kirrane of Bradenton, FL; four grandsons, Kevin Myers of Bradenton FL, Allen Brown of Hoover AL, Robert Cleveland of Birmingham AL, and Carson Cleveland of Tuscaloosa AL; two granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Cleveland of Birmingham AL and Kimberly Fuller (Jason) of Dothan AL; four great grandchildren, Makenna Myers, Hayes Brown, Bennett Brown and Townes Fuller; three sisters, Elizabeth Kolb and Betty Peterman, both of Dothan AL and Joyce Medin of Jonesborough GA, several nieces and nephews.
