Kathleen (Kathy) Mathis Deadwyler, 75 of Dothan passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 after an 8 month battle with cancer with her sister, Voncile by her side.


 


Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Crestlawn Cemetery with Minister Mark Turner, Christian Home Church of Christ officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2013. At other times, the family will be at the home of Bobby and Donna Peters, 1856 Malvern Rd. Dothan, AL.Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice.


 


She was born March 20, 1937 in Houston County to W.N. and Otis Mathis. Kathy worked in the hospitality industry her entire career life. She lived and served as a civilian in Saigon during the Vietnam War. She retired from SAMC in 2006. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Kathy truly had a servant’s heart. She always made sure her family and friends’ needs were attended to.


 


She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Shirley Willis and her husband Harold Deadwyler, 8 half-brothers and 2 half-sisters.


 


She is survived by sisters, Johnie Ray of Midland City, Voncile Vinson (Clarence) of Malvern; and Hilda Hersey of Lima, Ohio. Special nieces and caregivers, Donna Peters and Kathy Johnson of Dothan, and several other nieces and nephews.


 


Pallbearers will be nephews, Bobby Peters, Doug Johnson, Fred Johnson, Vince Peters, and Chris Giersberg, and Todd Vinson.


 


The family would like to thank the 3rd floor Oncology staff of SAMC, Dr. Steven Stokes and the staff of Southeast Cancer Center. Also a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Brown and staff of Dothan Hematology Oncology and Covenant Hospice for the exceptional care given to our dear sister and aunt during her illness.
