KENNETH  LAMAR  BLALOCK, SR.


 


ABBEVILLE. . .Kenneth Lamar Blalock, Sr., a resident of Abbeville, died early Friday night, October 4, 2013, at his home. He was 83.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Griggs and Reverend Chris Dobbs officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Anita Doswell, 114 Hickory Grove Road, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.


            Mr. Blalock was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, son of the late John Henry Blalock and Kate Daphne Hartley Blalock. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era. Mr. Blalock retired in 1989 from the Army Reserve, Abbeville Unit, with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He also retired from the Alabama Forestry Commission as the Henry County Forest Ranger. Mr. Blalock was an active member of the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Jewell Braddy, Myrtle Griggs, Louise King, Mattie (Teat) Ethridge, and Wilma Moody, and also a brother, John T. Blalock.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha Skelton Blalock, Abbeville; a daughter, Sharon Temples (Glenn), Headland; three sons, Kenneth Lamar Blalock, Jr. (Linda), Daphne, AL; Robert (Bob) Blalock (Karen), and Jim Henry Blalock (Susie), all of Abbeville; ten grandchildren, Garrett Temples, Kate Temples, Chris Blalock (Morgan), Jason Blalock, Shea Hicks (Dan), Leah Blalock, Joshua Blalock (Heather), Kevin Blalock (Mariah), Kay-Anne Blalock, and Ashley Regazzi (Matt); nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Skelton family, Mary Mitchell, Pensacola, FL; William Skelton (Glenda Faye), Wicksburg; Thomas E. Skelton (Lillian), Ozark; and James B. Skelton, Wicksburg; numerous nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Garrett Temples, Chris Blalock, Dan Hicks, Kevin Blalock, Todd Skelton, and Chad Hilson.
