Kyle Leonard, 14, a resident of Wicksburg passed away at his home on Saturday, September 20, 2014.


Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Cox, Rev. Wade Walton, and Rev. Cliff Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Kyle Leonard Youth Mission Fund, c/o Bay Springs Baptist Church, 1721 S. Bay Springs Rd., Dothan, AL, 36305.


Kyle Vincent Leonard was born February 25, 2000 to Donavan and Devi Leonard. A sweet, fun-loving and caring boy, he attended school in Caledonia and Mooreville, Mississippi. Kyle began attending Wicksburg High School in 2013. He was a straight A student characterized by his creativity, intelligence and leadership qualities. His steady, strong and engaging demeanor drew others to him. Whether he was outside searching for bugs and exploring or inside playing video games and music, he could encourage his friends and family alike with his enthusiasm. Kyle was on the JV and Varsity football team at WHS. He began playing football in third grade, had also participated in tennis and soccer in Mississippi and was involved in church league basketball. Kyle began playing guitar at seven years old. He progressed to also playing drums in the praise band at Auburn Baptist Church in seventh grade with high school and college students. He led youth worship on guitar and drums with his brother, Kevin Leonard, at Bay Springs Baptist Church. Kyle was baptized April 14, 2013 at Auburn Baptist Church, Tupelo, MS after professing Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He served God through his youth group and praise band in Mississippi and then at Bay Springs Baptist. His positive influence on his peers will continue to bring glory to God.


He is survived by his parents, Donavan and Devi Leonard; his brother, Kevin Leonard; his sister, Contessa Priest; paternal grandmother, Lena Leonard; uncles, Steve Leonard and Will (Teresa) Leonard; aunt, Karen Smuz; and many cousins, extended family and friends.


Serving as pallbearers will be Kyle Bond, John Leonard, James Leonard, Brian Atkins, Ryan Dillard, and Harold Street, Jr.
