ABBEVILLE, ALABAMA. . .Lanelle Rose Brummett, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died early Monday afternoon, July 11, 2016, at her home. She was 88.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016, in the Liberty United Methodist Church with Reverend Ron Ball officiating. All family and friends are invited to attend lunch following the memorial services. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice or to Gentiva Hospice, 2740 Headland Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mrs. Brummett was born in Bunger, Texas and was reared in Ranger, Texas, daughter of the late George Price Rose and Katy Lane Rose. She graduated from high school in Ranger, Texas with honors in 1943 at the age of sixteen. Mrs. Brummett attended Ranger Junior College for two years and graduated from Northwest School of Nursing in Amarillo as a Registered Nurse. She retired as a Registered Nurse from Lyster Army Hospital at Ft. Rucker. In earlier years, she worked in Lawton, Oklahoma. While living in Ozark, Alabama, she was employed by the Dale County Health Department as one of first public health nurses. In 1957, she was honored as Public Health Nurse of the Year for the State of Alabama. In later years, she served as the Director of Nursing for the Dale County Hospital in Ozark. She moved to Thomas Mill Creek on Lake Eufaula in 1973 and was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brummett was preceded in death by her husband, Molen Barker Brummett and a sister, Rachael Wakefield.
Surviving relatives include her children, Roselane Brummett, Abbeville; Patricia Schwab (John), Birmingham; and a son, who is Patricia’s twin brother, Michael Dan Brummett, Everglades City, Florida; two sisters, Wanda Sue Burleson, Eastland, TX; and Carolyn Ann Whittington, Olden, TX; a brother, Price (Buddy) Rose (Betty), Eastland, TX; four grandchildren, Benjamin Lane Stepp, Matthew Logan Stepp, Jennifer Leigh Schwab, and John David Schwab; eleven great-grandchildren.
