Larry Joe Frakes of Madison, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 following an extended illness.  He was 63.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating.  Burial with full military honors will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 – 7 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).

 

Larry was born April 22, 1953, in Nevada, Missouri.  He retired from the US Army after 26 years, during which time he served as a target acquisition specialist and senior rotary wing aviator.  In his spare time, he pretended to be a cattle rancher, and he enjoyed making people laugh by telling many bad jokes, none of which he could tell correctly.  He loved fully, cared deeply, yelled loudly, apologized quickly, and hugged warmly.  He hated computers and loved motorcycles.

 

He was preceded in death by Ricky Crea, Jr.

 

Survivors include Rita Jo Frakes of Madison, AL, formerly of Baca County, Colorado; five daughters: Jessica Dawn Conner (Dean) of Mary Esther, Florida, Chandra Dee Hall (David) of Madison, Alabama, Rachel Catherine Lee (Jonathan) of Enterprise, Alabama, Jessica Dawn Crea of Madeira, California, and Dalton Jessie Frakes of Enterprise, Alabama; parents, Glenn Frakes and Helen Joan Kosley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Linda Marie Kurtz of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
