Linda Stubbs Bunting, age 73, of Ozark, died Thursday, December 24, 2015 following a long, courageous battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday December 28, 2015, from the First United Methodist Church of Ozark with Reverend R. Mike Sigler and Reverend Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiation.  Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark will be directing the services.  The family will receive friends at the Church Family Life Center from 12 to funeral time.

Linda was born in Enterprise, Alabama, on August 7, 1942 to Tillman J. Stubbs and Zina Carroll Stubbs.  After graduating from Carroll High School in 1960, she worked for the Pea River Electric Cooperative.  She met 2nd Lieutenant Bob Bunting in February 1961, and they fell in love, a love that lasted more than 54 years.  From that strong bond of love and dedication, three beautiful and loving children were raised in homes across a country she supported as an all-American Army wife. Linda was a lady who always had a beautiful smile, was kind to everyone, and made everyone she met feel special.  She was a humble and gentle lady who touched the lives of so many young soldiers and their families during her thirty years of being an Army wife.  She always gave her all and best to her family, and everyone in her life.  She put up an incredible fight, battling an incurable disease with all her being, smiling to the very end as she became one of God’s special angels.

Linda dedicated thirty years to supporting her husband as a field artillery and aviation wife.  For her efforts, the Chief of the Field Artillery recognized her outstanding volunteer service with the Molly Pitcher award, and the Chief of the Army Aviation Branch presented her with the Katherine Wright Award.  After her husband retired, she became actively involved in her Church, PEO, the Ozark Literary Club, the Mission, and volunteer service wherever she was needed for the city she loved.  Ozark, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a very special uncle, James Stubbs. Linda is survived by her husband of 54 wonderful years, Bob Bunting of Ozark, daughters Carol Hohbach (Brent) and Allison Niketas, and son Jim (Alex). She also leaves seven grandchildren, whom she loved to the moon and back; Tyler and Lauren Hohbach, Jackson and Ashley Niketas, James, Lexie, and Avery Bunting; and Sam and Addie Marinack, and a beloved, adopted “Meme” Del Mays. Her only brother TIllman J. Stubbs Jr. also survives.

Pallbearers are Col (Ret) Chaplain Sunny Moore, Mr. Robert Logan, MAJ GEN (Ret) Lou Hennies, Mr. Dan Sowell, Mr. Joe Godwin, and Mr. Johnny Cox. Honorary pallbearers are the members of PEO.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Ozark, 167 E Broad St., Ozark Alabama 36360, the ALS Association, Alabama Chapter, 3313 Memorial Parkway SW, Huntsville, Alabama 35801, and the Boys and Girls Club of Ozark, 195 Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Ozark, Alabama, 365360.
