Louise LaVerne McVey of Samson, Ala. passed away at her residence on Saturday, January 28, 2017. She was 84. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, Ala. with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 30, 2017, from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Mrs. McVey was born in Missouri on July 19, 1932, to the late Jess Reynolds and Margo Yost Murphree. She lived in the Birmingham area for more than fifty years before moving to Samson to live near her son. In her pastime, Mrs. McVey loved to paint and work with ceramics. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Howard “Bob” McVey; son, David Carrol Owens; mother, Margo Yost Murphree; brother, Billy Murphree.

She is survived by three children, Margo Gilbert, and husband, Ken of Pelham, Ala. son, Carlton L. Owens and wife, Patricia of Samson, Ala. and LaVora Allums and husband, Terry of Leon, West Va.; brother, Donnie Murphree seven grandchildren, Ginger Jones, Chris Gilbert, Dusty King, Shelby Hutto, Stacey Hurt, Amy Stewart and Randy Stewart; thirteen great-grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Carson King, Conner King, Victoria Gilbert, Zachary Gilbert, Katirina Kimberlin, Anna Kimberlin, Tanner Hutto, Emily Hutto, Ashley Gray, Heather Lee, Tony Lee and Diesel Barlow.
