Luther James Sanders Nichols, age 83 of Coffee Springs, AL passed away, Friday, February 21, 2014 at the home of his daughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 24, 2014 at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Hingson, Rev. Bobby Weeks and Rev. Chris Adams officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:30 P.M. until service time.  Masonic Rites will be observed at the graveside.  Memorial donations may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church, PO Box 506, Chancellor, AL 36316, Chancellor Masonic Lodge, PO Box 531, Chancellor, AL 36316 or to Gentiva Hospice, PO Box 311708, Enterprise, AL 36331.

Mr. Nichols was the Chaplain of Lodge # 664 of Chancellor for many years, Chaplain for retired members of IAM Local 2003 Daleville, a Mason for 57 years and Shriner for 31 years, two- term Mayor of Coffee Springs and he retired from Fort Rucker as an aircraft mechanic in 1992. 

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Bessie Nichols, a sister, Joyce Smith, and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lydia Jerrylene (Jerri) Nichols; a daughter, Linda Nichols Davis (Curtis); son, Lester James Nichols (Margarett) all of Coffee Springs, AL; five grandchildren, Charlotte Nichols Brown (Tim) Tallahassee, FL; Shannon Nichols (Heather) Enterprise, AL; Brandon Davis (Angie) Elba, AL; Jamison Davis (Gayle) Coffee Springs, AL; Kacy Davis, Coffee Springs, AL; ten great-grandchildren, Dillon, Brianna and Brodie Davis, Elba, AL; Maddie Brown, Tallahassee, FL; James, Andrea, Matthew and Malorie Nichols, Enterprise, AL; Deeanna and Logan Davis, Coffee Springs, AL.
