LYNDIA  DIXON-JERKINS


HEADLAND. . .Lyndia Dixon-Jerkins, a resident of Headland, died Sunday morning, March 31, 2013, in a Dothan hospital. She was 64.


            Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Robert Marley and Reverend Buddy Hood officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Tommy Dixon, 1598 County Road 14, Midland City, AL.


Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Katie Rotton, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.


            Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the Serenity Memorial Gardens, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore, Alabama, (near Mobile), with Reverend Joey McCullough officiating.


            Mrs. Dixon-Jerkins was a native of Magnolia, Arkansas, and was reared in Prattville, Alabama. She formerly lived in Mobile, Dothan and Midland City before moving to Headland. Mrs. Dixon-Jerkins was a member of the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church in Wicksburg. She formerly served as a “Nanny” and had also been employed as a school bus driver with the Dale County Board of Education. Mrs. Dixon-Jerkins was currently attending Wallace Community College. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Evon Dixon, Sr., her father, Jack Chappell, and her step-father, Gene Andrews; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Whaley.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Harold Jerkins, Headland; three sons, Tommy Dixon, Jeff Dixon (Amy), all of Midland City; and Andy Dixon, Dothan; a step-daughter, Ramona Helms (Wriston), Maryville, TN; her mother, Mary Whaley Andrews, Midland City; a granddaughter, Hannah Demello; two sisters, Eldra Andrews (James), Opelika; and Kim Bowen (David), Salem; two special little girls, Laney and Lydia Strange, who Lyndia dearly loved, and helped to raise; and a special daughter-in-law, Amy, who was deeply loved and adored by Lyndia.


            Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Lawler, Brandon Bowen, Bradley Bowen, Brad Hunter, Del Warrington, John Constable and Greg Wilcox.
