MAGGIE  RUTH  MORRIS



FREEPORT, FLORIDA. . .Maggie Ruth Shelley Morris, a resident of Freeport, Florida, formerly of the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, died late Saturday morning, October 12, 2013, in the Westwood Health Care Center in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. She was 88.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church, near Headland, Alabama, with Reverend Joey Pettis and Reverend Thomas Gamble of Panama City officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary, Headland, Alabama is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.
            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church, c/o David Teat, 10033 County Road 47, Shorterville, AL 36373.


            Mrs. Morris was born and reared in the Tumbleton Community of Henry County, daughter of the late Willie Howard Shelley and Jewel Bradshaw Shelley. She lived in the Tumbleton Community most of her lifetime before moving to Freeport in 1971. Mrs. Morris was affiliated with the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church and the South Walton Baptist Church of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. She was the owner and operator of Eastern Lake Estates, Inc. in Freeport. In earlier years, Mrs. Morris was employed by Wex-Tex Manufacturing Company in Headland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Drew Morris, a son, Tommy Ray Gamble, a sister, Syble Stokes May, and a brother, James L. (Spud) Shelley.


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Martha Jean Ethridge (Kenneth), Tumbleton Community; a son, Larry Joe Gamble, Ponce de Leon, Florida; a sister, Jeanette Herring (Harold), Dothan; five grandchildren, Keith Ethridge (Debbie), Kim Ethridge (Tami), Kendra Feltman (Ben), Kelley Flatt (Daniel), and Rev. Thomas Gamble (Chelsea); a great-granddaughter, Courtney Ethridge; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Dr. Steven Stokes (Angelia), Dothan; a special friend and caretaker, Gerri Brink, Freeport, Florida.  


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Rev. Thomas Gamble, Daniel Flatt, Keith Ethridge, Kim Ethridge, Paul Baxter, Glenn Bishop, and Nicholas Russell.
