Mr. Marcus "Bud" Shelley, age 76, a resident of Gardendale (formerly of Ashford) died Tuesday December 18, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham following an extended illness.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday December 20, 2012 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church near Ashford with the Reverend Ricky Carroll officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Kendall Glover of Glover Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Thursday prior to services.  Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.


 


Mr. Shelley was born on September 6, 1936 in Henry County the son of  John and Lennie Beatrice Bond Shelley.  He was retired from farming and as a auto mechanic.  Mr. Shelley was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and lived most of his life in the Ashford area.


 


He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Lillie Maude Enfinger Shelley in 1982; second wife, Peggy Jane Shiver Shelley in 2007; sister's, Nell Shelley, Katie Watson; brothers Ralph, Jimmy Joe and Terry Shelley.


 


Survivors include three sisters, Donnie R. Hayes (Fred), Ashford; Lillie Belle Kimble, Ashford; Mary Ann Cosby (Willis); sister-in-law, Patsy McGowan, Ashford; step-daughters, Barbara Pate (Glenn), Ashford; Martha Fisher, Arkansas; step-sons, Bobby Key (Shelly), Ashford; Phillip Key (Ashley), Georgia; David Key (Marci), Mobile; special friend and caregiver, John Dale Riley (Crystal), Gardendale; aunts, Nadine Adams and Minnie Jo Jernigan; uncle, Ovie Bond; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


 


Asked to serve as pallbearers will be: James Glass, Carl B. Cosby, Jerry Cosby, Jimmy Ray Shelley, Conner Pate and  David Pate.
