Margaret Mary Janssen
Margaret Mary Janssen passed away peacefully March 23, 2014 in Dothan, Alabama.
Margaret (Maggi) was born in Ancon, Canal Zone. She met her husband, John, there during the war and both were later employed by the Panama Canal Company. They retired from the Panama Canal Company in 1975 and settled in Dothan where Maggi was active in the Canal Zone Ladies group, Retired Military Wives, and with St. Columba Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arwin John Janssen; her brother, Fenton Whelan and her sister, Mary Dault.
She is survived by her sister, Catherine Filo of Dothan; her son, Arwin John Janssen Jr. of Woodbridge, Va., her daughter, Patricia Beck of Panama City Beach, Fl.; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
“Maggi” was a loving mother and grandmother with an indomitable spirit and zest for life. She will be missed more than we can say.
A funeral mass will be officiated by Father Patrick Gallagher at St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. The service will be followed by interment at Gardens of Memory in Headland.
After the interment the family will receive friends at Catherine Filo’s home: 1506 Springhill Terrace, Dothan, AL. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
