Margie Nell Jeffcoat, a longtime resident of Gordon, was welcomed into heaven on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 following a prolonged illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Jeffcoat was born on April 22, 1929 in Houston County, Alabama. After graduating from Ashford High School, she married George L. Jeffcoat, her spouse of 44 years. Upon moving to Florida in the early 1950s, she found her true calling in the role of mother to her 3 children. Following several moves between Florida and Alabama, she ultimately returned to settle in Gordon, AL in 1995. Margie, commonly known as "Nan" to many, will be remembered for her love of cooking, her joy in gardening, and her deep devotion to her family. We will especially miss her contagious laugh, her sharp wit, and her legendary fried chicken. She leaves behind a rich legacy as a great wife, wonderful mother, and a true friend.

She is survived by her children, Ginger Ward (Freddie) of Montgomery, AL and Jamie Jeffcoat of Gordon, AL; her grandchildren, Kristin Leigh Ward (Paul R. Mayo II) of Pensacola, FL, Leslie Jeffcoat of Gordon, AL, Caroline E. Ward Sayre (Tyler) of Miami, FL, Josh Jeffcoat of Gordon, AL; her great-grandchildren, Navy Birch Sayre and Thisbe Garnet Ward Mayo; her brother, Bobby Womack (Betty) of Liberty, TX; her sister, Jean Deas (Santa) of Valdosta, GA; her sister-in-law, Eloise Hatcher (Roy) of Grand Ridge, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Donnell and Lettie C Womack; her brother, L. Rudolph Womack; her husband, George L. Jeffcoat; her son, George Wesley Jeffcoat; her daughter-in-law, Teir Gilmore Jeffcoat.

The family will receive friends and extended relatives for visitation on Saturday, December 17th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. A graveside service and interment will immediately follow at Gordon Cemetery.

Robert Byrd of Sunset Funeral Home, (334) 983-6604, is in charge of arrangements. Please call us or visit www.SunsetMemorialPark.com for more information.
