 Marion “Bill” Benton

Marion “Bill” Benton, 70, a resident of Gordon, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 22, 2013.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m.  Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Rev. Ronnie Dobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery (Gordon) with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The viewing will be Tuesday night from 5:00 p.m.  until 7:00 p.m.  in the chapel.

Mr. Benton was born October 19, 1942 in Brinson, Georgia and lived the early years of his life there. He has been a resident of Gordon for over 50 years. Mr. Benton was retired after working 20 years with the Laborers Union Hall # 784. He owned and operated Benton’s Lawn Care for the past 26 years. Mr. Benton loved fishing and spending time with his family.

Mr. Benton is preceded in death by his father and mother, George W. and Collie Mae Benton.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda G. Benton of Gordon; his children, Michelle North (Jon) of Cottonwood, Sandy Kaye Benton of Taylor, Patrick Benton (Melissa) of Gordon, Becky Joyner (Billy) of Dothan; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Charles Benton of Ashford, Eugene Benton (Pauline) of Gordon, Wayne Benton of Lake Butler, FL; several nieces and nephews that he truly loved and a special canine friend, Molly.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Gary Cochran, Jeffrey Benton, Billy Fulton, Keenan Lowe, Jordan Lowe and Gary Shelley.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
