MARTHA  MITCHELL  OAKLEY


 DOTHAN…Martha Lois Mitchell Oakley, a resident of Dothan, died peacefully at her home early Saturday morning, April 27, 2013. She was 83.


            Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in the Columbia City Cemetery with Pastor Randall Johnson officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 A.M. Tuesday in the parlor of the First Baptist Church of Columbia.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC, 28607-3000.


            Mrs. Oakley was a native of Headland and moved to Columbia with her family as a child. She lived in Columbia most of her adult lifetime before moving to Dothan. Mrs. Oakley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. She formerly served as President of the Mental Health Board in Dothan. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge. Mrs. Oakley was preceded in death by her parents, Gera David Mitchell and Mary Kate Parker Mitchell, her husband, Marion Lamar Oakley, Jr., and a sister, Lynette McKemie.  


            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Martha Lynn Oakley, Ft. Worth, TX; a son, Marion L. (Mark) Oakley, III and wife, Susan, Haleburg, AL; a granddaughter, Susanna Hines (Richard); two great-granddaughters, Savanna Oakley and Madison Hines; brothers-in-law, John H. Oakley (Gretchen), Naples, FL; and William B. (Bill) Oakley, Reston, VA.
