A gentle, strong caring angel here on earth has entered into God’s arms. Mary, daughter of Brady and Vasti Strength has fulfilled God’s plan for her life. She has served God first, been a faithful, loving wife and mother. God called and Mary answered. God has opened heaven’s gates to welcome her home on Friday, September 25, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 28, 2015 at County Line Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 223 W. Gregory Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.
Gibson Hospital is where Mary found her calling. She became an LPN and worked in surgery. She retired from Gibson Hospital, currently known as Enterprise Medical Center, after 34 years.
She met James Ralph Pouncey at his dad’s store. After he returned from the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers, James and Mary married on December 22, 1950.
Mary has been described as a “go-getter”. She was a great cook, could prime a pump, put up vegetables, take care of all of the yard work, teaching Vacation Bible school, Sunday school and Training Union.
She was preceded into heaven’s gates by her parents, Brady and Vasti, brothers Ray Strength, Donnie Strength, Reverend Jim Strength and sister Vesta Ataway, her sisters-in-law, Sara Pouncey, Jeanette Pouncey, Mary Martin Pouncey, brothers-in-law, Billy Pouncey, Joe Pouncey and Millard White.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Ralph Pouncey; children James Ronald Pouncey (Sherry Whiddon); Rhonda Joyce Dockery (Ken); Mary Fran Fayard (Robert); Mike Cooke and Andy Robbins; a brother, Grady Strength (Modrey); a sister, June Walden (Hobson);
She has been blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren. They are as follows: Ryan Oliver (Gavin, Kinley and Gabe), Tambri Pouncey, Whitni Pouncey Young (Ben),( Abner James and John Thomas), James Michael Dockery , (Maki) ,( James Moto), Emily Dockery (Emma Kate), Anna Dockery (Jamie White), (Mason) Brandi N. Clayton( Nick),( #9 great grandchild on way), and Allison Shea Robbins. Also surviving are her brothers-in-law, Jack Pouncey; Robert Pouncey (Sue); sisters-in-law, Mildred White; Bonnie Strength; Eloise Strength; Becky Strength; Sandy Drake and Linda Pouncey; numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Enterprise Health and Rehab, Gentiva Hospice for not only caring for Mary, but also taking care of her husband James Pouncey during this time. In addition, a special thanks to our family and friends for prayers, yard work, food and being here for mom and dad.
