Inez Tomberlin Phillips Locke, 96, of Winter Park, Florida died at Winter Park Memorial Hospital on July 6, 2013.  She was a longtime resident of Florida, having lived in Gainesville, Frostproof, and Tallahasee before moving to Winter Park. She also had a summer home in Franklin, North Carolina for several years. A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Northside Baptist Church, PO Box 1393, Apopka, FL 32714-1393.


 


Mrs. Locke was born August 30,1916 in Dale County, Alabama to Rev. Foreman Wilson Tomberlin and Lona Helen McLean Tomberlin. She later attended Livingston State Teachers College (now University of West Alabama) and served as a house mother at Florida Southern College, Tift College in Georgia, and both Ridgecrest (NC) and Glorieta (NM) Baptist Assemblies.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winter Park, having previously long been active at First Baptist Church in Tallahassee and First Baptist Church in Franklin, NC.  She and her family were former residents of Geneva, Alabama where her father was pastor at the First Baptist Church.


 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayland Bruce Phillips; second husband, Claude Elbert Locke; son, Dwayne Paul Phillips; grandson, David Phillips Bloodworth; two sisters, Bernice (Mrs. J.L.) Durant and Nelma (Mrs. Bill) McClendon; and a brother, William P. ("Bill") Tomberlin.

 

Survivors include a daughter Mary Bruce Phillips (Mrs. Darryl) Bloodworth; granddaughter, Krista Lee Bloodworth; great-grandson, Joey Ramos; sister, Ann (Mrs. Joe) Ray; sisters-in-law, Mary Jim (Mrs. Bill) Tomberlin and Sarah (Mrs. James E.) Hammond; step-children, Charles Locke (Kathryn) and Sylvia Locke (Mrs. Charles) Dillinger; caregivers Dianne Chapa, Angie Coonradt, Shirley Tucker, and Elizabeth Lam.
