            Mary Lawhon Johnson, a resident of Panama City Beach, Florida, died Wednesday morning, December 9, 2015, in Whitehall Assisted Living in Dothan, Alabama. She was 88.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, December 11, 2015 in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend John Woodrow and Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Friday in the Family Life Center of the church.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gulfview United Methodist Church, 245 Wisteria Lane, Panama City Beach, Florida 32413.


            Mrs. Johnson was a native of Elgin, Texas and formerly lived in Mercedes, Texas and Headland, Alabama before moving to Panama City Beach in 1977. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Mrs. Johnson was a retired Junior High School English teacher and had taught school in Corpus Christi and Mercedes, Texas and Newville, Alabama. She was also a retired co-owner and operator of Overhead Door Company in Headland and Panama City. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Gulfview United Methodist Church and moved to Dothan in 2013. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Johnson and her parents, Eldred E. Lawhon and Mary Goericke Lawhon Byrd.


            Surviving relatives include her daughter, Dethalia Johnson Armstrong (Joe), Headland; son, David Harold Johnson (Carmen), Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Lydia Johnson Simpson (Jimmy), Julie Johnson Jones (Stan), Amanda Johnson Suddoth (Scott), Brett Armstrong (Joan), Joey Armstrong, Andy Armstrong (Chelsey), Dale Armstrong (Michele), Anna Armstrong Emblom (Dr. Benton Emblom) , and Summer Hinton; twenty-seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; nieces and nephews, Jerry and Julie Lawhon, Dewey and Linda Lawhon, Patsy Bickham, Howard and Wendy Lawhon.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters.
