ABBEVILLE….Mary Vinson Barron, a resident of Abbeville, died late Friday morning, January 9, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was 78.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 12, 2015, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Fellowship, P.O. Box 611, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Barron, daughter of the late Russell Gaston Vinson and Maebelle Hendley Vinson, was born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia and formerly lived in Ocala, FL and Folkston, GA before moving to Abbeville in 1955. Mrs. Barron was retired from the Henry County Board of Education as a school bus driver and was a member of Freedom Fellowship in Abbeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bertram Barron.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Susan Whiddon, Little Rock, AR and Karen Johnson (Jason), Skipperville; a sister, Juanita Crews, Folkston, GA; a brother, Gene Vinson (Susan), Jesup, GA; four grandchildren, Joe Whiddon (Stacy), Jennifer Wright (Jared), Travis Johnson (Carson Burnette), and Charles Johnson; a great-grandson, Rowdy Wright; special family friends, Faith Gamble, Hope Gamble, Michelle Harrison, Rebecca Brown, Erin Griner, and Mary Nelson.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Todd Barron, Dennis Stinson, Adam Gamble, Jeff Johnson, Joe Vickers and Russell Money.
