HEADLAND. . .Mathell Smothers Sellers, a resident of Headland, died Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. She was 80.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 24, 2015 in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Van Clack officiating and a eulogy to be given by Wayne Sellers. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday and also from 10:00 until 10:45 A.M Friday at the mortuary.

            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.

            Mrs. Sellers was born and reared in Henry County, near the Concord community, daughter of the late Henry Wade Smothers and Vera Myrtle Green Smothers. She lived in Newville most of her adult lifetime before moving to Headland in 1995 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Sellers was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens after twenty-five years employment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert A. Sellers, a son, John William Sellers, a brother, George Smothers, and a special brother-in-law, Kenneth Welch.

            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sharon Sellers, Dothan; and Beverly Strickland (Mark), Abbeville; a son, Randal Sellers (Martha), Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Shirley Welch, Headland; and Wyno Dell Harris, Dothan; a brother, Wayne Smothers (Marie), Abbeville; a special sister-in-law, Jackie Smothers, Headland; nine grandchildren, Shannon Dowling (Mitch), Jessica Tyler (Michael), Jennifer Locke (Michael), Amanda Bentley (Rux), John William Sellers, Jr., Jessica Wingate (Ashley), Nicole Fennell (Cody), Jamie Sellers and Elizabeth Sellers; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews.
