Matthew Blake Bogardus, of Dothan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, May 10, 2013. He was 30 year’s old.

Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Billy Nolan officiating, and eulogy given by Mr. Mayon Sewell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2013, one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Blake’s honor to: Children’s Wish Foundation International, 8615 Roswell Rd, Atlanta, Ga 36350-1822.

Blake was born December 21, 1982 in Houston County. He was a 2001 graduate of Northview High School, where he worked on the school paper, attended the Youth Leadership Forum at Troy State University, and through the Lakeshore Start on Success Program he worked for the City of Dothan as an intern in the Mayor’s Office. He later did an internship at ProSource of Dothan, where upon completion, the owner, Mr. Todd Sallas continued his employment. There he thrived working in computer graphics.

Technology was his passion and he excelled in every aspect and endeavor. No obstacle was to great and with dedication and devotion, his motto was: I’ll go around it, over it or through it to achieve my goals. A very punctual young man, early was on time, on time was late, and late was unacceptable. Living with Muscular Dystrophy only motivated him more to achieve his best and be successful. Never asking “why me, but why not me”, his focus always remained on what he could do, not on what he couldn’t do. He made the decision earlier in his life, that when he could not live on his own, without the assistance of tubes, he chose to live a life of quality instead of quantity. An inspiration to his family and friends, Blake lived his life to encourage others to be the best they could be. An avid Auburn fan, he enjoyed spending football season with his grandpa. Blake was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, and attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

On November 20, 2010, Blake married the love of his life, Katherine Miller from North Carolina. This very special lady loved and cared for him unconditionally, enriching his life beyond measure. Their marriage has been an inspiration for young and old alike. Always committed, faithful and giving unwavering support through good times and bad. A love so deeply defined as an acceptance of all that is, all that has been, and all that was not to be.

Blake is preceded in death by his grandfather, Herbert Cobb, great-grandfather, Leon Cobb, and grandparents, Fred and Myrtle Jackson.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Katie, parents, Don and Paula Jackson, sisters, Stephanie Bailey and Tracy Culbreth of Dothan; Karan Wolbart of Maryland; a brother, Todd Jackson, Gainsville, Fl; grandparents, Lamar and Luverne Coe, Dothan; great-grandmother, Pansey Cobb, Dothan; a very special uncle and aunt, Ricky and Shelia Cobb, Dothan; who he lovingly referred to as UR & AS, aunt, Pauline Cobb, Rehobeth; uncle and aunt, Ray and Nell Lucas, Dothan; nieces, Breanna and Brittney Bailey, and Catherine Coe, Dothan; and a nephew, Dylan Culbreth, Dothan; special cousins, Kristi (Cobb) Bullock, Atlanta, Ga; and Kerri (Cobb) Roberts, Abbeville, Al; loving in-laws, Pete and Susan Miller, and brother-in-law, Peter Miller, North Carolina.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Bryan Sinclair and his nurse, Ms Ann, and to Gentiva Hospice and his nurse, Karen, for their dedication and devoted service.
