Mattie Ruth Byrd of Midland City, AL passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at her residence. She was 96.


Funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2015.  Burial will be at Gardens of Memory in Headland, AL. The family will be accepting flowers.


Mrs. Byrd was a member of Magnolia Free Will Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved fishing and enjoyed the outdoors.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend A.T. Byrd; two brothers, Albert Moseley and Arthur Moseley; two sisters, Louise Williamson and Willa Rae Dixon and two sons-in-law, Bobby Allen and Earnest Clayton Thomas.


Survivors include her two daughters, Betty Thomas and Mary Allen; one sister, Jeannette Dixon; six grandchildren, Kathy Rustin (Robert), Debra Sullivan (Donny), Vickie Brown (Carl), Jeffrey Thomas, Melony Lee (Jeff) and Jennifer Blocker (Chris); seven great- grandchildren, Cody Lee, Jed Lee, Lindsay Long, Meghan Culverson, BriAnn Corbitt, Raven Corbitt and Abby Blocker; five great-great-grandchildren, Leigha Baldwin, Brayden Smith, Brayden Culverson, Avery Culverson and Ivy Long and several nieces and nephews.


Serving as pall bearers will be Sammy Blocker, Kevin Floyd, Jimmy Watson, Cody Rinehardt, Ronnie Dixon and Robert Leggett.
