Maudean Henderson Bell, age 92, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013.


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Stanley Outlaw, and Reverends Jeffrey Pettis and Wallace Russell officiating. Mrs. Bell grandson, Brian Thigpen and family friend, Larry Sasser will be singing at her funeral. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2013. Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Southern Care, Inc., Corporate Office, 2204 Lakeshore Dr. Suite 475, Birmingham, AL 36209. At other times the family will be gathered at her residence, 735 Cowarts Creek Rd, Ashford, AL.


She was born in Dale County, Alabama to Rex and Bertie (Dasinger) Henderson. Mrs. Bell grew up in the Gordon, Alabama area. She attended Gordon Elementary School, Ashford High School, and Wallace College. She worked with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (known now as CSX) and several other places, but her foremost occupation was as a wife, mother, and grandmother, and great-great-grrandmother.


She lived in the Cowarts area most of her life, except for the years she and her late husband, Rev. Ralph Lee Bell, ministered at Free Will Baptist Churches in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. She was a member of Cowarts Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir for many years, and was active in many areas of church work.


Mrs. Bell is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Ralph Lee Bell; her parents, Rex and Bertie (Dasinger) Henderson; her sister, Lillian Maxine Henderson (age 3); her brothers, George, Thomas and Rev. Rex Henderson; and her great-granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Thigpen.


Survivors include: daughter, Emma Jean Bell Mallory and husband, Lewis Mallory; son, Ralph Douglas (Buddy) Bell and wife, Sherry Bell. Grandchildren include Kim Mallory Tate; Janet Mallory Thigpen and husband, Brian Thigpen; Robin Bell Creel; Ralph Douglas (Doug) Bell II; Alycia Bell Mathis and husband, Sidney Mathis; Brad Bell and wife, Vicki Bell; and their mother, Dimple Bell. Mrs. Bell is also survived by great-grandchildren: Keith Monk and wife, Jeanna Monk; Andrew Fisher, Jessie Fisher Dodson and her husband, Justin Dodson; Casey Bell and his wife, Regan Bell; Leslie Mathis; Calen Battles; Chase Mathis; Shelby Bell; Tyler Thigpen; Austin Creel; Trevor Thigpen; Ross Bell; and Seth Bell. Five great-great-grandchildren survive her: Jamie Monk; Alex Monk; Leah Bell; Bryce Dodson; and Olivia Dodson. In addition, several nieces, nephews, and two sisters-in-law, Martha Henderson and Sybil Kapica, survive Mrs. Bell. Pallbearers are Keith Monk, Doug Bell, Brad Bell, Calen Battles, Sidney Mathis, Roger Henderson, and Michael Kapica.


Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Bell’s remaining grandsons, great-grandsons, and great-great-grandsons.The family of Mrs. Bell would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for the care and kindness of their loved one.


A special thanks to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren for staying with their grandmother during her hospital stay.
