DOTHAN…Maxine Harrison King, a resident of Dothan, died Monday evening, August 3, 2015 in the Extendicare Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday August 7th in the chapel of First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Reverend Lynn Smilie Nesbitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the chapel prior to the service.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, National Center 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231.


            Mrs. King, daughter of the late Rawls V. Harrison and Gertrude Robinson Harrison, was a native of Hartford before moving to Dothan in 1964.  She was a 1949 graduate of Geneva County High School in Hartford. She met for lunch monthly with her fellow classmates for several decades.  She enjoyed cooking for other people, especially baking and she had a smile that lit up the room. She enjoyed life every day and never complained.  Mrs. King was formerly employed as a bookkeeper with Van Ritch, Carpets & Interiors and also The Medicine Shoppe pharmacy. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Watson King, Jr.; three brothers, Herman Harrison, Calvin Harrison, and Buford Harrison.


            Surviving relatives include her son, Charles Watson (Chuck) King, III, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Christine Abbott, Panama City, FL; Ruth Jones, Griffin, GA; one sister-in-law, Mary Harrison, Panama City, FL; several nieces and nephews.  The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Extendicare Health Center for their loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. King and her family.
