Mertis Bennett, 73 of Dothan passed away Tuesday July 22, 2014 at her residence.


Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Saturday.


Mrs. Bennett was born September 14, 1940 in Dale County and she lived the early years of her life in Pinckard. Mrs. Bennett resided most of her life in Midland City and she was employed at Wallace Community College for over thirty years until she retired in 1998. Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church.


Survivors include her sons, Thomas Kelley, L.A. Bennett, Billy Bennett, Bobby Bennett, and Antony Bennett; her daughters, Thelma Tyson, Gennese Creech, Jacklen Walker, Belinda Dozier and Annie Rose Clark; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brothers, Moses Lee Creech, Jay Lee Creech and James Kelley; her sisters, Betty Kelley, and Hannah Hammonds; a host of nieces and nephews.
