MICHAEL  JEROME  SKIPPER


ECHO COMMUNITY. . .Michael Jerome Skipper, a resident of the Christian Hill Community of Dale County, between Midland City and Echo, died Sunday morning, May 11, 2014, in Noland Hospital in Dothan. He was 65.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Warden and Reverend Jeff Lunsford officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Hill Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or to the Kidney Foundation, S.E. Alabama Chapter, P. O. Box 12505, Birmingham, AL 35202.


            Mr. Skipper was born in Lakeland, Florida and was reared in Dale County, Alabama. He was a 1967 graduate of Carroll High School and attended Wallace Community College. Mr. Skipper served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era and was medically discharged from the military. He was formerly employed by Army Fleet Support at Ft. Rucker as a helicopter mechanic. In earlier years, Mr. Skipper was employed as an automobile body repairman and also taught Auto Body and Fender Repair at Sparks Technical College in Eufaula. He was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Janet Long Skipper, two daughters, Kristy Stevens and Tina Skipper, two grandchildren, Annie Stevens, and Kyler Stevens, all of the Christian Hill Community; his father, Albert Coleman (Joe) Skipper, Brundidge, AL; his mother, Ruby Lee Baker Skipper, Ozark; three sisters, Judy Hartman, Tampa, FL; Olivia Brinson (George), Grimes, AL; and Beverly Richburg (Jimmy), Echo Community; his mother-in-law, Martha Avant Long; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Long family, Jackie Goding (Bill), Judy Peterman (Wayne), Jerri Lesser (Jeff), Ranny Long (Debra), and Anna Long; numerous nieces and nephews.
