Mrs. Dean was born in Slocomb, Ala. on February 16, 1916 to the late James Irving Hagler and Mary Elizabeth Harris Hagler.  She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at the Samson First Baptist Church, later becoming a member of Auburn First Baptist upon moving to Auburn.  She graduated Slocomb High School, Class of 1934.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Pitt Dean; and all eight of her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Dean Sayers of Auburn; son, Gary Dean (Deborah) of Birmingham; five grandchildren, Leslie Greer (Wesley) of Jacksonville, Fla., Abby Sayers of Bloomington, Ind., Jordan Sayers of Houston, Tex., Justin Dean (Emily) and Rachel Gibbs (Thomas) both of Birmingham; seven great grandchildren, Miles, Jonah and Rowan Greer, Murray and Maxwell Dean, and Landon and Campbell Gibbs; and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.

Although she worked occasionally in family businesses in Samson, Mrs. Dean was first and foremost a homemaker, wife and Mother.  She was active in school and church activities, particularly those that included her children, and she made her home and yard a welcoming center of neighborhood activities and play.  Her cheerful outlook on life drew others to her side throughout her life; she was greatly loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
