ASHFORD. . .Milton Munford Wimberly, a resident of Ashford, died Monday night, January 18, 2016, at his home. He was 86.


            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 21, 2016, in the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, near Ashford, with Reverend William Irwin officiating and a eulogy to be given by Bobby Sowell.  Graveside services, will full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday in the sanctuary of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, c/o John W. King, 974 Jack Bruner Road, Ashford, AL 36312.


            Milton Wimberly was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Springs community, near Ashford, son of the late William Wimberly and Mable King Wimberly. He graduated from Ashford High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Wimberly enlisted in the Ashford Army National Guard in 1956. He also served in the Abbeville Army National Guard before retiring from the Ashford unit in 1989 as a Platoon Sergeant. Mr. Wimberly was employed by the Ashford Post Office as a rural mail carrier and retired in 2003. He was also engaged in farming all his adult lifetime. Mr. Wimberly formerly served as the Post Commander of the Elliott-Rogers American Legion Post in Columbia. A member of the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, he was a lifetime member of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. Mr. Wimberly was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Horne Wimberly, a sister, Nell Thomas Garris, a brother, Reverend Charles R. Wimberly, and a special uncle, Henry Floyd King.


            Mr. Wimberly was reared by a man among men, his maternal grandfather, Charles W. King.


            Surviving relatives include his daughter, Pamela Wimberly Longchamp (Jeff), Dothan; two grandchildren, Lindsey Longchamp and Madison Longchamp; a special uncle, Charles Reginald King;  a special friend, Eloise Duke, and an angel, Annie Goolsby.
