Mr. Angus Huey Martin of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with Jesus Monday, January 28, 2013.  He was 88.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Harry Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery located in Holmes County, Florida on Hwy 177-A, North of State Hwy 2 with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until service time.  The family will also welcome visitors for lunch at the church following the graveside.

 

Mr. Martin was born January 1, 1925, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Robert Haywood and Josie Clo Whiddon Martin.  He was an awesome man of God, who was married to his beautiful sweetheart for 69 years.  They raised four children together and brought their family up in the ways of the Lord.  Not a day of his life went by that he didn’t thank God for blessing him with his wonderful wife.  Their love was a beautiful gift from God that has inspired their future generations.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a deacon in his church for most of his life.  He loved his family dearly, and in return, was dearly loved by them.  He will be greatly missed. 

 

In addition to his parents, 14 brothers and sisters, as well as a grandson preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Girtha Farmer Martin; four children, Jackie Cole, Buddy Martin, Pat Martin and Rhonda Whiddon (Kent); 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

 

The family would like to say thanks and blessings to Janie Mae Peoples, his caregiver thru the last years of his life.
