Mr. Billy Joe Martin of Cowarts passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was 84.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend  Donald Clark officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2014, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway Suite 2, Dothan, AL 36302.

Mr. Martin was a member of Rainbow Meadows Baptist Church. He grew up farming in the Taylor area and attended Rehobeth School. Mr. Martin served in the USMC, 1948-1952, and fought for our country during the Korean War. His early jobs included delivering furniture, auto mechanic and driving trucks. Most of his career he was a Master plumber and electrician, working for Builders Homes and operating his own business for 20 years. He returned to truck driving and retired from Dairy Fresh in 1995. During his retirement years, he enjoyed building furniture pieces which he sold at Sadie’s Flea Market until age 80.

He is preceded in death by his wife Laverne Forehand Martin and a brother William Henry Martin.

Survivors include daughters Deborah Saad and her husband George of Dothan; Donna Davis of Cowarts; Darlene Hilyer and her husband Bill of Dothan; brothers Irby Martin and his wife Mandy of Pansey; Roy Lee Skipper and his wife Wyvonnia of Dothan; grandchildren Michael Saad, Jason Saad, Austin Saad, Amanda Hatcher Davis (Michael), Mary Hatcher Johnson, Cameron Hilyer, Ashley Hilyer, great-grandchildren Brittany Saad, Hayli Saad, Katlyn Davis, Hayden Davis, Spencer Saad, Elizabeth Johnson, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jason Saad, Austin Saad, Cameron Hilyer, Steve Forehand, Russell Martin, and Charles Godwin.
