Blan Whisnant of Geneva passed away at his residence on August 19, 2015 after an extended illness. He was 68. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Maple Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, 1009 W. Maple Avenue, Geneva, AL 36340. Blan’s friend Mr. Jack Jones, age 108, will serve as an honorary pallbearer. 

Blan was born in Enterprise, AL on March 29, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cullen and Myrtle Whisnant; and a sister, Dana Weeks. 

In the summer of 1963, while still in high school, Blan began working at Pittman Funeral Home. He was a graduate of Geneva High School, Class of 1965. After serving his apprenticeship at the funeral home, he received a degree from Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He retired after fifty years of service to the community. 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Dorriety Whisnant; two sons, Lee Whisnant and Chad Whisnant (Brooke), all of Geneva; three granddaughters, Ashlyn Van Wert of Auburn, Lauren Van Wert of Mobile and Laine Whisnant of Geneva; four brothers, Ike Harris of Phoenix, AZ, Doug Harris of Enterprise, David Harris of Salem, AL and Danny Harris of Samson; and extended family, friends and colleagues. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Roy Lett for his care and compassion and to his loving caregiver, Debbie Williams.
