Mr. Chandler Fletcher Cox of Geneva, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013.  He was 84.


 A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 6, at First United Methodist Church in Geneva with Rev. Bill Kidwell, Rev. Jerry Tanton and Rev. Charles Avery officiating.  Burial will follow at Hartford City Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  Prior to the service, the family will receive friends in the church Narthex beginning at 1:00 pm.  Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 304 S. Academy, Geneva, Alabama 36340.


 Active Pall Bearers will be Fenn Church, Trammell Church, Lanier Church, Bert Hughes, Charlie Hughes, John Ed Cox, Allen Tanton and Houston Avery.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be Johnny Hughes, Bill Hughes, Jack Hughes, J.J. Hughes, John Ward, Levy Ward, Al Gene Ward, Tim Faulk, and the staff of the Geneva office of Carr, Riggs & Ingram.


 Mr. Cox was born and raised in Slocomb, Alabama.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.  In 1955, after graduating from college, Mr. Cox accepted a position with M. L. Strickland & Company in Geneva.  He earned his CPA designation and eventually bought the practice, which then became Cox & Faulk.  In 1997, Carr, Riggs & Ingram acquired Cox & Faulk and Mr. Cox continued to work with that firm until he retired on October 1, 2011, at the age of 82.


 Mr. Cox believed hard work was honorable and lived his life accordingly.  When he did manage a day off, he thoroughly enjoyed travel and hunting.  He was an excellent marksman, spent many happy hours hunting dove and quail, and was a frequent winner of holiday “turkey shoots”.  He also loved the beach and treasured the days he spent there with family and friends.  Mr. Cox’s civic activities included serving two terms on the Geneva City School Board and ten years as Treasurer and a member of the Administrative Board of Geneva First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


 Chandler Cox was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Pauline Cox, sisters Charlie Bernice Cox Moore and Lorena Cox Avery, and one brother, Hughy Cox.  He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sara Margaret Hughes Cox of Geneva, Alabama.  He also leaves behind a son, Chandler F. Cox, Jr. (Anna) of Birmingham, AL, a daughter, Carol Cox Kissel (Jim) of Atlanta, Georgia, brothers Walter Cox (Macon, GA) and John E. Cox (Ozark, AL) and a sister, Joy Cox Tanton (Slocomb, AL).  Mr. Cox is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Sara and Reeves Kissel of Atlanta, GA and Julia and Fletcher Cox of Birmingham, AL.
