Mr. Charles H. Herring of Geneva passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014.  He was 85.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014 in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva with Minister Doug Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in the Geneva City Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  A luncheon will be held for the family at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Geneva Church of Christ.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Veterans Association of America, Inc., P.O. Box 309 Audubon Station, New York, NY 10032-0309.


Mr. Herring was born in Geneva, Ala. on April 28, 1929 to the late Steven Houston Herring and Myrtle Smith Herring.  He retired as Chief Master Sergeant from the US Air Force after twenty-two years of service.  Following his military career, Mr. Herring worked in civil service as a firefighter for many years.  In his pastime he really loved to fish.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Hugh Herring, Jr.; sister, Doris Herring; and granddaughter, Sara Herring.


He is survived by two sons, Tim Herring of Geneva and Charlie Herring of Destin, Fla.; daughter, Maggie Roberts of Destin, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Hollie Herring and McKenna Herring, both of Geneva, Jacob Herring of Panama City, Fla. and James Roberts of Destin, Fla.
