Clarence "Lester" Poitevint, Jr., a lifelong resident of Dothan, died at the age of 96 on Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home.  

 Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Reverend Bob Gross officiating.  Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery with Southern Heritage directing.  The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time.  In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to; First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303.
     
Mr. Poitevint was born January 20, 1918, to the late Clarence Lester Poitevint Sr., and Weetie Fortner Poitevint.  He was a 1936 graduate of Dothan High School and attended Auburn University before returning home to work for the U.S. Postal Service.  In 1980 he retired after a career of 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service.  During those years he “walked” a city postal route, held a supervisory position and concluded his career as a rural route carrier.  He was a veteran of World War II having served as a B-17 pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps.  At the time of discharge, after 50 missions, and with the rank of  a First Lieutenant, he had received the American Theater Medal, Air Medal with 9 oak leaf clusters and a Presidential Unit Citation.    His flying skills were later utilized when he became an instructor pilot for B-25 planes as well as a Captain in the Wiregrass Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.  Throughout his life he enjoyed flying private planes, which he co-owned with several friends, racing hydroplanes, and traveling throughout the U.S. with his wife and Dothan neighbors.  He was a member of First Baptist Church. 

      Mr. Poitevint was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Robinson Poitevint, a sister, Verre Skipper, and son-in-law Mickey Hardy. 
     
      Survivors include son, Kenneth Lester Poitevint of Dothan, and a daughter, Cynthia Poitevint Hardy of Birmingham; four granddaughters; Amy Poitevint Elmore (Kiley) of Trussville, AL, Faith Poitevint Harris (Jeff) of Dothan, Celeste Hardy Butler (Scott) and Joy Hardy of Birmingham, AL; great grandchildren;  Adam and Brian Lester Elmore, Ann Margaret and John Dean Harris, Wesley, Brody and Hardy Butler, four nieces and 2 nephews.
     
      Special thanks to four faithful, loving caregivers; Virginia Jones, Barbara Jackson, Brenda Howard,  Angie Palmore and Gentiva Hospice.
