Cecil Clifton “Coot” Hicks, a resident of Ashford, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his residence. He was 79.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Shady Grove Congregational Holiness Church with Sister Judy Dyson officiating. The family will receive friends at Southern Heritage Funeral Home from 6 PM until 8 PM Friday, July 19, 2013.

Mr. Hicks was born December 28, 1933 to Avery and Levettia Butler Hicks and was a lifelong resident of Houston County. Mr. Hicks loved softball. He played and coached many teams from Ashford and also umpired.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Hicks, Ashford; daughter, Debra Bowman, Enterprise; son, Wayne Hicks, Ashford; five grandchildren, Michael Hicks, Crystal Blackburn, April Cotton, Jason Herndon and Brandon Hicks; nine great grandchildren; sister in law, Pat Moseley, Dothan; brother in law, Danny Hill, Skipperville; several nieces and nephews.
