Mr. David Smith, age 73 a resident of Thomaston, Georgia (formerly of Ashford, Al.) died early Monday in Dothan following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (CST) Thursday January 7, 2016 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rex King officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.

The family will be receiving friends at Glover Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to services.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Rd., Montgomery, Al. 36111.

Mr. Smith was born on June 9, 1942 in Gordon, Alabama.  He was a police officer with the City of Ashford for 13 years, worked 5 years with the Upson County Sheriffs Department  and retired with the the Griffin, Ga. Police Department in 2008 after 21 years of service.  Mr. Smith was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Thomaston, Georgia; a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Thomaston and was  U.S. Navy Veteran. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Flora Smith Hill; grandparents, Preston & Dovie Oliver Smith.

Survivors include: son, Scott Smith (Tracey), Dothan, Al.; daughter, Lisa Worthy (David), Rehobeth, Al.; a sister, Frances McCarty, Barnesville, Ga.; 4 grandchildren, Anna Grace Smith, Lydia Smith, Callie Worthy and Kaylin Worthy.
