Floyd O. Leighton II, 69, of Dothan, Alabama died Monday, August 10, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with Philip Collins and Andy Gartman officiating. Family will receive friends at the church 1 to 1 ½ hours before service.

Floyd was born in Cumberland, Maryland on July 3, 1946 to Floyd and Dolores Leighton. He moved to and spent his adolescent years in Winchester, Virginia, and graduated from Handley High School in 1966.

A 36 year government civil service career took him all over the United States, plus two tours in Europe, with his final assignment of 12 years as the Director of Information Management for Fort Rucker in Enterprise, Alabama before retiring to Dothan, Alabama.

Floyd had a great love of football and coached throughout his life.  He was head coach (“The Man”) of several championship teams in Europe and assisted a few years at Dothan’s Houston Academy.  He enjoyed weight training, cars, and just talking with people.  His sense of humor, wit and compassion earned him many friendships throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Crenshaw Leighton; daughter Deborah Leighton of Birmingham, Alabama; son GK (Carolyn) Leighton of Trinity Florida, son Regan (Gloria) Leighton of Katy Texas; grandchildren Logan, Dylan, and Arianna Leighton of Trinity Florida; mother Dolores Y. Leighton of Dothan, Alabama; sister Cynthia Dahlen of Largo Florida; brother Douglas Leighton of West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and Home Health Care for their care and support.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or the Tabernacle Church Building Fund.
