Mr. George O. “Bubba” Sims, Jr. of Samson passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 in a Dothan Hospital. He was 79. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013 in the Chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 27, 2013 beginning at 10.00 a.m. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the, First Baptist Church Building fund, 100 W. Main St. Samson, AL 36477 or to the Travelers Rest Cemetery fund, c/o Mr. Johnny Faulk, 611 W. Pullum St. Samson, AL 36477 or Mrs. Ann W. Ausley, 4 N. Canal St. Samson, AL 36477


 Mr. Sims was born in Fort Payne, AL on May 11, 1934 to the late George Oren and Annie Lee Orme Sims. Bubba graduated from Auburn University in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also served his country, as part of the United States Navy, during the Korean War. He began his career in the natural gas industry in 1958 and worked in it until his retirement in 2001.


 He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mrs. Annie Clyde Smith Sims of Samson; two sons, George Oren Sims, III (Ann) of Arcadia, FL, and Bart Lee Sims (Faith) of Canton, GA; one daughter, Lori Sims Baxter (Jeff) of Cartersville, GA; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Ola Ann Lee (Jim) of Huntsville, AL and several nieces and nephews.
