Mr. Herman Stewart of Newton passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013. He was 87.


 


Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church in Wicksburg with Reverend Buddy Hood officiating.  Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, February 22, 2013. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice.


 


Mr. Stewart was born January 13, 1926, in Damascus, GA. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1966. He worked at Farley Nuclear Plant after retiring from the Navy. Upon his retirement, he started his lifelong dream, building, opening, and operating Stewart’s Par 3 Golf Course in Newton, AL. He was a member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.


 


He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Lynn Stewart; an infant daughter; parents: Robert and Rebecca Stewart; and brothers, Lester, Herbert, and Chester.


 


Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Annette McKnight Stewart; children: Pat (Tom) Heisner, Wicksburg; Gary (Jill) Stewart, Hartford; grandchildren, Neil (Melanie) Heisner, Dothan; Eric (Fran) Heisner, Headland; Adriane (Chad) Creel, Dothan; great-grandchildren, Leslie Heisner, Ella Grace Heisner, Crawford Heisner, Noah Creel, and sister, Vassie Watkins.
