Mr. Newberry was born on February 21, 1920 in Houston County the son of James Clayton Newberry and Rufie Lee Jackson Newberry.  He was retired as a carpenter and lived most of his life in Ashford.  Mr. Newberry was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the East Congregation in Dothan.

Known to many of his friends as “Red”, He was always on call to help people at any hour or day when they needed help with a home emergency.  Red was also an expert gardener and avid fisherman.  He was loved by many and respected by all.  He put God, his precious wife and his family above all.  He gladly passed on his experiences and many corny jokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen Christine Newberry; infant son, John Mark Newberry; a grandson, James Michael Newberry; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ellen Loutricia Perry (James A.), Maynardville, TN.; Sharon McNemar (Jim), Dothan; two sons, David Newberry (Regina), Pansey; Michael Alan Newberry (Yolanda), Orlando, FL.;  14 grandchildren, James Morgan, Jerald, Joel, Julie, Kaci, Megan, Allison, Samantha, Kelli, Aimee, Daniel, Jeremiah, David Alan, and Alexis; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice for their care and also to Regina Newberry and Marina Perry for their loving care.
